Biodiesel
coozer - 1/6/08 at 09:59 PM

I'm after building a biodiesel plant in my garden shed.

I looked at this when it was 80p/litre and now its £6 a gallon its time to go for it.

There was a few websits showing how to build a plant but when I search now its all about buying a plant

Anyone got any good home websites showing the building of a processor??

Depending on how fussy you are I'd just get a car you can drive on SVO / WVO without having to make proper Bio.

I.e. an IDI Merc or PSA XUD engined car.

I know it narrows it down a lot but its also a lot less hassle.

With the very late ultra high fuel pressure diesels I'd always be paranoid about killing a ~£1000 pump. Soon wipe out your savings...

try this site for a few ideas

Even cooking oil is at £1.20/litre in ASDA now. So just mixing with diesel is not worth it
Keep us posted if it works. And SWIMBO gets to use the soap, a bonus

Try a search for the Twyn Tub 100 diy biodiesel processor. A real Locost build.

how about building an electric car!!!! You could do a reasonably cheapish job and get 50+ miles from one charge so if your work is 20 miles each way then it's a viable option. Charging the batteries cost about 1p per mile.

Cost of conversion.........£3000 - £5000 (All new parts) plus cost of vehicle to convert.

100 miles plus would need Li-LiON batteries (mobile phone batteries) and would be about 10 - 15 THOUSAND POUNDS!!!!

I'm sure theres a locost way of doing it.
