The 'Ring
twybrow - 9/7/08 at 12:07 PM

Went to the 'Ring for the 1st time this weekend. We had an Audi TT (3.2 v6, DSG) and a rental BMW 116i (the Z4 was fully booked until late September!). Oh my god, it is the best place on gods earth. A real petrolhead mecca. The machinery to spot, the roads around the track, the people, and the track - it is all fantastic!

I only did 2 laps (in the BMW) and got a 10:20 (first time ever at the ring) which I thought was reasonable. I overtook a couple of M3s which felt good! Now we are planning on when we go back, and what machinery we take next time!

If you haven't done a trip, do it before its made illegal!

I wish people would stop taunting me with bloody 'Ring stories...

I went a couple of years ago and will hopefully be going next year, but having a hard time waiting for it to come round!!!

sigh I wish I had holidays like that...

Where did you rent the BMW from? I want to visit the ring my self but I dont want to take my car there cause it is quite far away from Greece...
If you crash a rental in the ring what happends? I mean does the insurance cover you or you pay all the damage ??
Thanks

Any excuse. What a nice mate letting me drive this round the ring last year:

twybrow - 9/7/08 at 02:04 PM

kastrato - I will send you the detail by u2u.

The consequences depends upon who/were you hire from...

We did not hie from germany, and that makes a big difference. All the hire companies within sensible driving distance to the 'Ring have clauses to exclude cover for the 'Ring. I wont say on here where I hired from, but it was not local enough to be on their radar (Althouigh we did need to make sure we removed Nurburgring from the satnav!)...

As for insurance, well check all the documentation really well, and if it doesn't mention trackdays, Nurburgring etc, then consider yourself as covered... Best bet is don't crash the car!

And what a trip it was...

Like Worx said - Can't wait to go again, a fantastic experience!

One of those things I think all should do. Didn't cost that much and even though I was in the car and the Worxi on bikes - still a damn good laugh. Even with my shoddy driving!

Do it - Well worth every second and penny!

Note to self...Must loose some weight...
