Scart to VGA lead
greggors84 - 6/9/08 at 03:15 PM

Just moved into a new flat and looking for a small TV for my room. There isnt loads of space to put one so was thinking about a small (19" ) lcd screen.

Ive found leads on ebay that go from scart to 15 pin VGA. It does say that these work with most LCD monitors, how can I find out if it will.

There are loads of used lcd monitors on ebay for cheap, plug in a freeview box and I have a cheap tv i can wall mount.

I thought they had some circuitry to get the sync right , and cost about £50 - £70.

Let me know if it works , I'd like to plug a monitor straight into a freeview box..............

I would have thought that if the box did RGB out by SCART then that could be wired straight to VGA?
I would bet that the cheapy Freeview boxes don't do RGB out though.

I'm just guessing though!

The question is whether the LCD will sync low enough to get a picture - most cheap one won't which is why you need the extra circuitry.

I bought a box from ebay for my daughter's room. Was about £40 but included a TV tuner and scart input. I'll have a dig around and post a link in a mo....

Something like this is a more advanced version of what I have....

Link to manufacturer shows it should work with any LCD....

but don't forget you'll need some desktop speakers as LCD monitors don't tend to have them...

It looks as the Maplin one is the same as the ones on ebay just 10x times the price. As you still need an LCD or projector with the right scan rate. The one on ebay doesnt look like it has the jack for the sound output off the scart, but my freeview and dvd boxes have audio out so i can plug my stereo in.
