I've just been a bit of a child and bought a 306 gti6. Cracking car if you get around the fact it's french, a more liveable/modern 205 1900 GTI you could say. You can get a very reasonable to very good one for that money. Not toooo bad on fuel if you drive carefully but with the best bit of 170bhp and a cracking 6-speed box it can sometimes be rather tempting to give it some beans.

When was the last time you looked? I could have sworn you had an MX5 a few years ago.

I had a Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo from new and it was a fragile thing back then. Gawd knows what they're like for 2k. Money pit at a guess. Amazingly practical car however. Massive boot, four proper seats and proper fast, especially good for overtaking. Not a great handling car as standard tho.

Bloody expensive to insure!!! also if the cam belt needs changing....forget it!

chris_smith - 22/9/08 at 08:31 PM

my bro got the fiat 20v for pretty much the same reason FUN and had nothing but bother with it,
i on the other hand recently had an MX-3 loved it to bits i just didnt have the time or cash to give it the tlc it needed thoroughly
recommended and can be had for a grand usually a few kicking around on ebay

You wont find many tnat havent be chavilised.

306 gti or rallye i would go for. The rallye's are a bit quicker.

adam1985 - 23/9/08 at 06:59 AM

how about the old clio williams or the 1.8 16 valver fast and fun i was told

donut - 23/9/08 at 07:18 AM

Not too keen on French cars to be honest although the Williams appeals.

Like the look of the VW Golf VR6. Anyone had one?

adam1985 - 23/9/08 at 07:52 AM

havent had a vr6 but have been out in the golf mark 3 16 valver that was quick not sure theres much difference in speed of the mark but the vr6 sounds nice

donut - 23/9/08 at 07:58 AM

2.8 V6

195.7 PS (193.0 bhp) (143.9 kW) @ 6000 rpm

279.0 Nm (206 ft·lb) (28.5 kgm) @ 3200 rpm

Nice!!! Insurance is pretty good too.
