SAAB or Volvo
K999NNY - 24/9/08 at 03:36 PM

Getting to the stage that Im seriously looking at my next car. Think I have narrowed it down to 05/06 Volvo V50 2.0d SE or Saab 9-3 150bhp vector sport estate. Looking for any personnel experiences good or bad of either.

Cheers

I have a v50 2.0 deisel LUX.

It nice inside, but you will notice that the plastics are a little poor.

Storage for the driver is poor

There is no ashtray/bin as far as I can tell (I dont smoke, but it means litter gets dumped)

The steering goes mad when I floor it out a junction, feels like its steerings itself to increase the lock I have on the steering. Torque steer?

Boot is not as big as others

CD player goes a bit mad when Air Con is on sometimes

Small tank compared to audi a4 I had before.

on a good note, it is quiet at motorway speed, cheap for what it is, quick enough, comfy, very well protected in a crash, some nice toys.

I wouldnt get it again, but it wasn;t my choice this time, its a pool car.

I have had an older saab than you are looking at and it was lurvely from a comfort point of view - best seats by far IMHO.

They are both good cars, from makers who are not in the habit of putting out duff ones.

Thing that would put me off the Saab is what seems to be the steep depreciation ( I haven't studied Saab prices, it's just an impression I have formed, YMMV)

I run a Volvo BTW, an old one

Isn't the 9-3 a Vectra ?

Difference between a volvo and a hedgehog? Pri**s on the outside of the hog! sorry but the old ones are the best!

I had a 9-3 tdi vector for a couple of weeks as a hire car. Loved it went like stink. Quiet and comfy ride. But the inside is of vauxhall quality. Very Plasticcy.
I love the look of them. Dont put saab bits on it though vauxhall bits are the same and half the price.

Isnt the V50 a focus with a better engine?

Basically it comes down to a Ford (Volvo) v's Vauxhall (Saab) debate as both pairs of brands share many technologies (chassis / engines, etc).

I like the new C30... looks quite funky! XC90 is superb. Volvo probably gets the nod from me.

Saab's... just never liked the interior! Otherwise there are one or two nice models!

Beware of the residuals connected to both... desperate!

I've often wondered why people buy new or nearly new cars, the depreciation would take all the fun out of it for me.

It will be 2 or 3 years old. Ive now owned my only new car and wouldnt do it again. Why take the hit when someone else can?
