Stem Cell Transplant
liam.mccaffrey - 26/9/08 at 04:18 PM

Today is my first day of my stem cell transplant procedure for my lymphoma (in Dallas). I'm quite content, I can surf this forum through the hospital network and I am listening to Jo Whiley on Radio 1 through Sirius Radio (its time shifted).

I get 7 days of Super-Chemo which will kill my bone marrow (and the cancer) and then I will get my own Stem Cells infused back next week to repair my bone marrow.

The drug in the brown bag is mixed with an alcohol solution so i actually feel about 6 or 7 pints in!

Muchos kudos for the post!!!!
If only everyone was as open about these things.

liam.mccaffrey - 27/9/08 at 02:01 PM

thanks for the kind words, they were really nice.
This was my third big post about my cancer
and I really didn't do it to get the sympathy vote
I think most people know someone who has had some kind of chemo but I bet not many people know someone who has had a stem cell transplant. I'll keep you all posted!

P.s.
I am coming back to UK,
and I'm definitely better looking better Pepe the prawn. Am I winning the longest running christmas avatar yet? this will be my 3rd without changing

Alan B - 27/9/08 at 02:15 PM

Liam, good luck...we are all rooting for you...

I don't know if they let you out for beer or not, so this may be a pointess soggestion.......but if you can get out head for the lower greenville area of town...excellent night out....

Take care mate....

RK - 27/9/08 at 02:37 PM

You'll be back on your car project in no time. Just keep away from that big loser Moyles guy on BBC1 and you'll be fine!!!

liam.mccaffrey - 27/9/08 at 06:41 PM

whats wrong with Moyles?

he is obnoxious but he is kind of a caricature of himself

davie h - 27/9/08 at 06:45 PM

good luck with everything

ps how many pints do you feel like you've today

Davie

Simon - 27/9/08 at 07:11 PM

Liam,

All the best with the treatment - my father had the stem cell treatment over ten years ago and he's still in fine health

You may get a bit thin on top......

Just avoid contact with sick people and you'll be fine!!

Pezza - 28/9/08 at 09:13 AM

Hope it all goes well for you

iank - 28/9/08 at 11:08 AM

Liam:
Don't envy the chemo (can still remember how sh*t I felt 3 years on), but having an arm mounted optic is

Good luck with the treatment. I'm sure you'll do fine, you have the attitude of a survivor which is 90% the battle.

BenB: There are a few people like me who've written about their arguments with cancer over the years, but it's a bit of a thread ender most of the time to be honest.
There are a couple of other's I've had u2u's from who've never written about it openly, and I certainly respect that choice as well.

mangogrooveworkshop - 28/9/08 at 11:46 AM

Good luck Liam

Guinness - 28/9/08 at 02:56 PM
