want a hassle free car?
Mr Whippy - 13/10/08 at 08:23 AM

NTDWM e bay linky but this IS a bargan

having had 2 now, one that looked idential to that one and got about 70k out of it without one single breakdown and only oil changes and it never failed an MOT, best cars I've ever owned. If only I had the room for another

Not exactly a looker though is it

That said, an old work colleague used to have a turbo (1.8i I think) version and loved it to bits and it did seem to be a very hassle free car to own.

nope rather bland, but they work

nathanharris1987 - 13/10/08 at 08:52 AM

gotta love the rice cars

NigeEss - 13/10/08 at 08:54 AM

My Dad used to have one as a taxi, got 250,000 out of it before it developed a crack in the block
and started using water.
Up to then it was as Whippy said, nowt more than oil changes.

Yep, very bland but very reliable.

You've never owned a TR7 have you

AndyGT - 13/10/08 at 10:00 AM

well at least this allegro doesn't have the sporting alloy wheels which were made from steel and alloy.

I read somewhere that after about 2 years the alloy oxidised away from the steel as both metals where corrosive against each other..... ..gave owners huge problems with slow punctures only to realise later it was the wheels not the tyres!! Trust BL to get it wrong.

It's funny you should say that, but I have actually owned several TR7's, and my favourite was the last one which was an early (Speke) (no sunroof) into which I transplanted my 3.9V8 with PAS etc. 2.84 diff etc.

So yes, 'Made in England' is a high reccommendation as far as I am concerned

OK the only cars made in Scotland today may be Locosts and their ilk but they are the best locosts

They're automatic rear seat passenger decapitators. Deploy in a crash to make sure you're dead rather than suffering.

Grrr... british built... grrrr

I bought a Civic because i wanted jap quality and reliability - having previously owned a few Mitsubishis (which were fantastic)

No-one told me the Civic was built in England! I haven't seen such bloody awful build quality on a car for many years!
