Oh dear.. I've dropped an allen bolt into the petrol tank..
The tank is 2/3 full and its one of the bolts for the cap, its aluminum so a magnet is no good.
Any ideas how i can get it out?
Get one of those cheapo flexible grabber jobs that they sell at crap tool shops.
tip it upside down. the bolt will fall out the filler. then celebrate by having a smoke
alternatively, wot frank said its the only way i can think of
magic
Dunno where abouts you are, but I have a grabber. You can come pick it up tomorrow.
Or alternatively, could you drain tank, remove and then tip upside down??
Have you got a spare one ? If you have , leave it in there , being alluminium it wont do any damage
blu tak or plasticine on the end of a stick, its how they retrieve bullets fired into ballistics tanks
Leave a plate of Jaffa Cakes next to the filler. When the bolt gets peckish, it'll wander out to get the JCs and that's when you grab it........
mouse trap with a nut as bait?
stop being silly obviously the guy needs help.
Cut a big hole in the bottom it will fall out then weld it up

I think blutack will go soft in petrol so you may be better off with a grabber!
Leave it be - it's not going to cause any harm is it. It's too big to pass through the filter and fuel line and it's ally (same as the tank presumably) so it's not going to deteriorate either. You'll never hear it unless the tank is bone dry in which case the car will have stopped any way.
