Bike carbs to crossflow inlet manifold pipes
Roman - 18/11/08 at 04:33 PM

Bend or cut and weld?

Crossflow engine with unspaced CBR600 carbs, pipe is mild steel.

Do I try and bend them or cut and weld them to get the correct angles, etc?

If bend, what is the best way of bending 1 5/8" mild steel pipe without distorting it?

Been looking at your photos for sometime now, they have been giving me ideas leading up to me finally making the decision to go down the bike carb route. Thanks

Go for it it's not hard if you can weld
Im glad you like my manifold

(mine are also CVR's from a ZX9R)

I like it better with the SUs

Ive respaced my carbs so only had to bend in one plane, but just cut the tube to form a V nearly all the way through then bent it and welded the joint as seemed easier than clamping loose sections together and welding.

By far the best idea. Some of the manifolds I've seen for unspaced carbs have had very sharp bends in the outer runners, not ideal for a performance upgrade.

I've also respaced my CBR600 carbs - if you click on the WWW link below, and click on the 'bike carbs' menu item, then you'll see what was involved. There's no reason why the inlet manifold couldn't be made of steel, instead of the ali I used.

Book marked your website along time ago David very useful, 1 of the reasons I went for the same carbs.

I don't have the tools/skills/money required to respace the carbs, so trying to do it without.

Thanks for all your comments I think I will try the cut and shut method.

I will keep you posted.

Hi the thing's with wires are cut off solenoids for when you drop the bike
my carbs are of a continental bike

Just one thing if you re space the carbs to fit a pinto and still have a dizzy the carbs may not fit
