Engine positioning

How far off the centerline can I move the engine?

The further away from the centreline the bigger the compromise in theory.

As above BEC installs are generally offset to the passenger side which I guess is dictated by the combined engine and gearbox which was designed for a transverse bike fitting.

The BEC layout however always strikes me as being a good idea in so much as the engine wieght on the passenger side probably balances reasonably well with the driver weight on the other side of the car (assuming no passenger).

What engine/chasis arrangement are you working with?

Isn't this determined by propshaft position?

If you are using passenger RWD running gear, doesn't the prop runs symmetrically between driver and passenger?

I beleive the prop has to run a a slight angle to stop the uj's seizing

I have offset my zetec by 20mm over to the passanger side.

strikers have engie offset to passenger side not sure how much by m.

Striker's are offset by a fair amount as below. The diff is not angled to compensate and mine is probably a bit further than in newer chassis revisions. I think I read a figure of 3 deg being the recommended max angle to deviate by from parallel. Though I don't know the max offset distance.

Just slightly offset then

Not a particularly brilliant photo, but Fraser's (from New Zealand) offset theirs pretty significantly as well. The oil filler is on the centreline of the car [its a 4AGE BTW]:-
