I have 1 breather on my xflow, I've always known I need more but now I think I REALLY need to do somet about it!!

I have removed the pcv valve and fitted one of those alloy burton jobbies to the block. 1/2" hose then goes to the catch tank and there is a breather on that.

When building the engine, I removed the petrol pump and fitted a blanking plate, I think the lack of pump is letting the cam fling oil up into the breather then forcing it into the catch tank.

Is it wise to vent the crankcase breather into the rocker cover with the 1/2" hose, then use a 3/4" fitting in the rocker cover to vent the the engine into the catch tank. (Either that or 2x 1/2" hoses)?

My next question is where can i get the fitfings from. I was thinking along the lines of the oil pipe fittings used in oil takes offs etc, with a nut and dowty washer as opposed to tapping the hose in the rocker.

my petrol pump blanking plate has a kind of tab on the back of it fits between the cam and the breather to stop oil being flung into breather.ive seen people vent crankcase to rocker and then rocker to tank but mine has both breathers piped straight to tank.try to mount tank as high as possible and have hoses rising all way to the tank this way any oil getting into pipe should drain back. m.

Different engine in mine but similar problem. solved it by putting a bigger breather hoze - 3/4 inch and sloping it upwards from the rocker.

Idea is the fumes are going slower so there is more time for oil to drop out.

Ahh that may be my problem, I have the catch tank fixed to the n/s footwell bulkhead so i might need to raise it!

I made the same mistake. Get your catch tank as high as possible.
I also run the pipe from the pcv straight up between two of the inlets and OVER the rocker cover - this means that the oil would find it very difficult to get up the pipe!

When it was attached to the footwell bulkhead i managed to fill it with oil in about ten mins of hard driving! Emptying the engine - whoops!

I don't have any problems with my xflow using a blanking plate with the tag and a single hose from the Burtons breather to a catch tank mounted as high as it would go and a standard breather cap with no hose. I suspect cheap oils will have an adverse effect ?
