hi are they any good? what are the gains from using one? cheers ben

omega0684 - 16/3/09 at 06:29 PM

allows you to alter cam timing

*davies144* - 16/3/09 at 06:35 PM

so do you gain more horsies?

Paul TigerB6 - 16/3/09 at 06:42 PM

If your cam timing is about by a small amount - then yes. Best to fit it and then let the rolling road fine tune the timing. If your cam timing is spot on currently then it wont make any difference.

Overall i'd say they are worthwhile if you have a fancy cam in there. They do look very bling dont they!!

omega0684 - 16/3/09 at 07:08 PM

i've just been out to the garage to take a photo for you, you can see in the top left of the pulley (as you look at it) that you can adjust it to the closest degree for precision timing

If you have a std cam its not worth it. If its non std then its worth the investment as it allows you to get the timing spot on.

yeh looks smart so you would opt for 1, im going to run it on bike carbs so will it help the whole balance of the engine?

mookaloid - 16/3/09 at 07:21 PM

AS Mr Flak Monkey says - they are only any good if you are fitting a hot cam which needs timing which is different from the standard.

It makes no difference to the standard cam worth mentioning.

Yeah, but if you have a timing belt cover on, you cant see it anyway.

Heyho!
- I only have a rusty steel kent-cams one.

yes, no timing cover for me, whats the point in hiding it all away! as you see it in the picture is how it runs.

Ditch the timing belt cover - its extra weight!! Oh hang on - its a Pintosaurus isnt it....... waste of time trying to save a few hundred grammes

omega0684 - 16/3/09 at 08:49 PM

its only the same as a zetec carrying a passenger

Or a BEC carrying 5 passengers!!

omega0684 - 16/3/09 at 09:20 PM

is it the weight of the block that is the main source of extra baggage on the pinto, my fltwheel only weighs 3.8kgs and i have ali add ons of everything instead of cast steal, ali bell housing as well so i reckon that my pinto would be considerably lighter than most.

Its about the same weight as any other pinto install in a kit That rocker cover will add weight over the normal one too, itll be heavier than the pressed steel one

The pinto gets a lot of bad press over its weight, buts its not that bad to be honest. The weight benefit of the zetec is minimal (~15-20kg), the major weight saving would be from a duratec install as its all ali even then its only about ~35kg lighter than the pinto (85kg for a bare engine as opposed to ~110kg for the pinto)

so i reckon that my car is just as light as a zetec car, im only 9st 7lbs, so some of you fat buggers out there are probably heavier! i feel a petition coming on, boycot the zetec boys!

Or the old bolt I found wedged between the timing belt and the pulley!
