Hi
Noticed my engine wobbling a bit today and found out the o/s engine mounting has broken where it has been welded around the plate that bolts to the
engine block.

Basically it has snapped where the weld finished, i whink down to excess movement in the rubber mount which i have now hopefully fixed! is there
anyway I can repair this?
weld it right back up
Is there room to weld another plate on - to double the thickness - as that looks a bit thin to me ?
I was thinking that, but where it has pushed through, it has taken the metal part of the plate that is was welded to with it. This means to weld it, i
will have to weld onto the existing weld it you know what it mean.
Just wondered if this was a good idea!
Thanks
Shaun
Before you weld, burn the paint/powder coating off and give it a good wire brushing.
Also grind the weld flat on the non-tube side of the plate. This will give better results than just building weld on weld.
Once welded, do the same on the tube side.
nothing wrong with welding onto a weld, some call it annealing (?)
eg, my brake caliper mounts were welded on to my axle, at right angles to the tube, the guy did one weld in the corner, then 2 either side of that,
then another between those. so 4 in total
Or...........just cut the plate off , and re-make it in 5mm (which I have plenty of ........)
I would also cut it of and weld a thicker plate on.
hmm, it is a bit thin isn't it? looks like 3mm?
5mm would be better
right ok, a thicker plate it is!
Claire I may take you up on the plate offer, I may have some here but will pay you to knock me a couple up if I can't see any!
Thanks
Shaun
Sorted - I'll get the kettle on
