Duratec MPG

A standard duratec ( 2007-... ;145 hp) with air mass meter uses around 8 litres of fuel per 100 km (in a normal production car)

2 questions:

What is the fuel consumption of a duratec with throttle bodies in a 600kg kit car ?

And how does your engine computer knows how much fuel to inject if you are running on throttle bodies (=> no air mass meter) ?

you could run an inlet plenum and have the mass air flow meter on the inlet?

The standard Duratec engine computer will not work with throttle bodies, infact the standard Duratec ECU is unlikelly to work at all because of the built in security features which need things like the dash clocks, ABS, door locks etc.
The Duratec however will work very well with an after market ECU

You need an aftermarket ECU which will calculate fuel based on manifold pressure and/or throttle position instead of the air mass meter.

Fuel consumption in a light car should be better however in practice the gearing will be much lower and you will spend most of the time higher up the rev range with you foot hard on the go pedal and a stupid grin on your face

Also aerodynamics play a big role, at motorway speeds in a Seven you will never achieve the mileage that modern tintops get.

Didn't think a Duratec uses a MAF!!

I think some do, the focus one does AFAIK. Think the mondeo is TPS and MAP. Could be wrong though....

I average around 30 mpg in my focus 2.0 duratec. It ain't that good on fuel. I have had the trip at 14mpg on a spirited drive....
Mpg is irrelevant in a kit car in my opinion.

I know they have a MAF + ETB in Volvo's.
There they call the engine "NI4" instead of "Duratec".
