My starter is on the exhaust manifold side. Whats up with that

Nothing. The starter from a DOHC 8V Sierra fits (as does a few other Ford starters), mine came free with the donor. The starter bolts to the gearbox so as long as it engages properly with the flywheel and turns the right way then all should be fine.

so ford did put the starter on the exhaust manifold side with uk zetec's.
As my start is on the right side for my gearbox (mt75) why do i have to use the one i have from the donor?

If I remember correct the Mondeo one I had would not fit as the solenoid was in the wrong place and hit the sump. Have a feeling Escort one might be OK. Only suggested donor car one as it will more than likely fit.
