The V6 box with the long input shaft is stronger and better - it has a higher first gear so that might be a better choice to start with.
Currently we're running a 2.0 pinto, RR'd at 110bhp@ wheels on the standard gearbox as out of the 2.0 injection sierra - is this a type 9?
I'm not up on the gearbox names.
We've got plans for a 2.3 duratec on bike carbs (ZX9R) which I'd hope would be around 200bhp at the fly? What sort of power will the gearbox
take (assuming good condition of course)? If its not going to be any good, whats the options for upgrading?
I was kind of hoping fords safety factors would be similar to that of the CVH gearbox, which seems to handle anything up to 200bhp and masses of
torque from an RST.

I know someone breaking an XR4x4 - would the box out of this be adaptable to be 2wd?
BGH might just exchange it for a 2wd one, if you give them a call they'll tell you what your options are
I got one of there E8 boxes second hand, and they've been very helpful at answering all my questions so far

ford borgwaner T5 fitted in 2WD cosworth and mustang good up to 500 hp + strate out off box with no mods
The T5 box would be the one to go for imo, but the type 9 attached to Owelly's alfa V6 has not broke yet, and its had loads of abuse.
The diffs have failed , but the type 9 has been fine.
The are supposed to be good for 150bhp, but kitcars are light, and there is not as much strain put on them.
I had a long shafted type 9, but it was badly worn.
The T5 box also has much better 1st gear ratio 2.92 to 1 and they are available from £300 you will need a Rally design (or similar) bellhousing to fit
the box to a Duratec.
A V6 Type 9 will need the bellhousing and possibly the Caterham bellhousing spacer @ £100
An uprated BGH box will be around £500 close to £700 with the 2.8 1st gear set
matethe t9 will easy take that power as long its in good nic,the pinto turbo boys are putting 250-280hp through them and they are dealing with it for longer than you would expect.im going to put 270hp through mine.
Cheers for the input guys. sounds like it'd do the job for a while anyway so we'll probably just stick with it for the time being and upgrade if/when it does let go.
