Hi guys,

Am i right in thinking that 3.62:1 is the lowest ratio sierra diff avalible?
Was there a 3.62:1 LSD in some sierras?

Which models had them? - so i can go out to a scappy and get one

3.14:1 is the lowest ratio sierra diff but they are pretty rare!

There are plent of 3.38s out there as open diffs but if you are looking for a LSD, most of them are 3.62.

You can combine a 3.62 LSD with a 3.14 or 3.38 to produce LSD variants. This is what I did (or should I say asked the nice gentlemen at Road & Race to do for me).

not that i've done it with a sierra dif, but in theory all you need do is strip the dif and swap the dif unit & crown wheel and pinion over..

just be careful that it is correctly shimmed when it goes back together.

Apparently you dont swap the CWP but rather take the viscous LSD unit out of the 4x4 diff and put it in the recipient diff. This saves alot of setting up of the CWP.

3.38 came out of the 2.0 auto (carbed) the 3.14 2.3 diesel. Ford sense of humour on the vin plates mean that they arent reliable (unfortunately I know this from bitter experience). Check the ali tag on the diff or count the output vs input revolutions.

IIRC it cost me £80 to get the diffs combined.

This is my first post on here but I have been following locostbuilders for a long time while thinking about what to build and have been through a few options. Anyway I have bitten the bullet and recently collected a part built Phoenix.

I have a 3.92 sierra type diff for it. On the case "LSD" has been written by hand, but I tried the usual tests to check it and it appeared not to be an LSD - so i paid a non-lsd price for it thinking I might need the cwp anyway. Thinking about it after the event would a viscous diff with no oil in it behave as an LSD? How can I check if it is or not?

I know identifying lsd's has been discussed before but the lack of oil is making me wonder....
