I am wanting to change my type 9 from a 2 litre sierra to that from a 3.0 sierra to get the longer first gear. I know the input shafts are different, but can i simply take the 2 litre one and put it in the 3.0 box instead of getting it machined down to size?
no you can't - because the input shaft has 1st gear on it which is the ratio which is changed on the 3.0 box.
Get yourself a spacer to go between the bellhousing and gearbox which sorts it out for you. it is about 25mm thick so it might require the propshaft
shortening depending on how far in the coupling is at the rear of the gearbox.
Cheers
Mark

of course that too!
^^ sorry Blake, but the gearbox/lever won't move at all if you move the engine forward
and it'll move 25mm back if you don't move the engine
