Hi,
First of all, I know the zetec shares its basic block architecture with the CVH, I assume this doesnt tail back to the crossflow?
Ive heard the water rail causes issues in rwd fitment, is this only a space issue for bulkhead clearance? Anyone got a decent pic of the OE
arrangement?
Whats the best (cheapest and strongest) flywheel and clutch arrangement for a zetec onto a type 9? Ive read about rs turbo clutches and standard fwd
mondeo ones and allsorts but not found a clear answer?
Can the original ford ecu be maintained in a transplant? Any links to wiring guides? Is the immobiliser easy to get around?
Im talking here about a silvertop 2.0 unit.
Cheers
Don't know about some of your questions, but Big_wasa has used the standard ecu on his enginr
Regards
Hugh
The water rail is needed just for bulkhead clearance.
Stu
RS Turbo clutch (220mm) will be the strongest available std clutch. AP do uprated ones as well. However a std mondeo clutch usually stands up to the
power.
You dont need a water rail - just use ali tube and normal hoses to link the outlet at the back of the head to the top hose of the rad.
big-wasa is the man to talk about WRT ECU's

There are some pictures in my archive of the water rail - my engine was as far back as possible
Cooling
I used a CVH flywheel for lightness but this doesn't have a crank sensor.

mcmerd1: OK, so the engine mounts will need to be redone anyway.
lsdweb: Cheers for the pic, thats the raceline rail? Any pics of the original setup?
Cheers!

Do mondeos have a standalone engine loom back tot he ecu or is it all integrated with the headlamps and washer pump and that jazz?
The main issue with retaining the OEM injection system is
1) The size of the inlet manifold. It can interfere with steering columns etc.
2) The majority of Mondeos will have an immobiliser system (PATS) built in which will need to be transferred over as well. The early Mk1 Mondeos had
an ECU without the PATS system, but they are getting more difficult to find now, and you'll need the appropriate wiring loom for the ECU.
I have standard 1.8 zetec flywheel, its thinner and lighter than the 2L and has the pick ups on the back you need for ignition.
Then a standard 1.8 Mondeo clutch plate and cover and a Capri release bearign within the type 9 bellhousing. Works atreat and has not slipped or
caused any problems with my ST170 engine.

If your not pulling the engine and gearbox back to fit where it touches the bulkhead its a simple arrangement of 32mm and 19mm pipework.

Cheers for all the info! it will probably be a mondeo donor and by the sounds of things I want to aim for a 94/95 model. I assume if I get a donor car
and go carefully I can transplant the early PATS if I have the key?
Its not for a locost, so I suspect the water rail and manifolds wont be an issue. For reference has anyone got a pic of the escort and mondeo
manifold?
Cheers!
Which cars came with rear bowl sumps? (sump at the gearbox end)

From memory mondeo is in the middle and escort is at front.
Give me a shout on the wiring if you need a hand.

erm you would think wouldnt you
That's a no isnt it?
Okay, so I collected a zetec at the weekend with a free mondeo
It's a 1998 R registration 1.8 and the ecu says NOAH on it.
Can anyone shed any specific wiring advice? Im assuming its a PATS equipped car from the earlier advice in the thread.....
