Right then......Further to my post yesterday and startup video, general concensus was that it was not firing on all cylinders. So this evening I took
the plugs out and was quite surprised with what I found. Plugs 1,2 & 3 were all covered in black carbon. Plug 4 was as if it had just come out the
box...brand new shiny and unscathed.
I then tested the spark to plug 4 and it sparks fine.
So I guess the only other thing it could be is no fuel....ie faulty injector or wiring. I drained the fuel lines and isolated the fuel supply. Removed
the TB's and tested the plugs. Plug 4 is getting the same voltages on the pins during cranking as plug 3 (they are linked via wiring to MS
1&3, 2&4) so can only be a faulty injector. What do you reckon to my testing and logic so far??
No idea how the injectors work...is there any way of testing them and if not do you know where I can get a replacement.
Its a Bosch 25002XT froma Yam R6.
Thanks for any advice recieved.
Matt
Apply voltage and an earth to the injector and gently tap the injector , it may just be stuck. Don't hit the end where the fuel comes out . Failing that it is possible to get them cleaned if you can find someone with an ASNU machine. HTH Mel
Is it possible to swap around the injectors to see if the fault moves?
Cheers
Rich
are you sure its the injectors and not the ms what is your set up i had a similer problem turned out to be vr sensor wired back to front to edis
unit

Ok, yep good idea to swap the injector to see if the fault follows.
Set up is 1.8 Zetec with R6 TB's, MS 1 V3.0 Wasted Spark (no Edis). The injectors are wired up in pairs to Spark A and Spark B controlled by MS.
They are wired in firing order ie 1&3, 2&4. All plugs spark fine. Fuel to rail is fine so something not right with inj 4. wiring checked
and appears to be ok as I've checked volatges on 4 & 3 and they are the same so I think this only leaves injector.
I will try putting 12v and earth to the 2 pins on the injector and putting some air through it....will this be ok or do I risk damaging it?? I could
compare to another injector to see if there's a difference.
Thanks for the replies so far....keep em coming.
Cheers,
Matt
I would move the spark plug and the injector to a different cylinder and repeat. If after some rough running you've got the same problem you know
it's know a problem with the HT lead or the injector wiring.
then swap injectors and see if the problem moves.
simples
Was the plug on cylinder 4 wet?
You said it was as brand new but you didn't say if it was wet or dry as brand new.
If it wasn't wet, then fuel injector not working.
If it was wet, faulty plug or HT lead.
I believe that you can check for spark on cylinder 4 by removing the plug, connect it to the HT lead and then place it near the engine. You should see
the spark.
I am sure that someone will correct me on this one.
Plug was bone dry and looked as though it had just come out of the box.
Already checked spark to no. 4 and it was fine so only leaves lack of fuel as problem (me thinks)!!

Matt

so the next test if you don't have a new injector is to put it on a different cylinder and start up.
