Oil PSI changing...
jono2020 - 1/9/10 at 07:59 PM

The Oil pressure on my car usually around the 60 mark and between 30-40 when stationary. Today when I took it down the road, about 2 mins into my journey I noticed the pressure was nearer to 80/90. Idle was about 40-50. Also when I rev the engine the oil pressure is rising and falling which it doesn't usually do. Does anyone know what this could be... It has had an oil change about three weeks ago...

How cold is it? Sounds like someone put heavier viscosity oil in at the last change.
Did it settle down after the engine was at proper operating temp? We get that here in Canada in the winter because of -20C temps.

Oil pressure should rise and fall with revs. It will also be much higher when the oil is cold.

Sounds ok to me with fresh oil.

Oh ok, maybe I have just never looked at the PSI just when I start out. Just wanted to check there wasnt any major fault with it. Also sorry about posting the engine size so many times, I thought my comp froze so I kept hitting 'post reply'

I thought you had a 8 Litre Zetec

jono2020 - 1/9/10 at 08:16 PM

If I had an 8ltr zetec I would prob be dead by now. Or the happiest guy in the world, you just wouldnt be able to tell as I was doing 250mph everywhere... But prob dead

Assuming you used the correct oil grade it would appear the oil pressure relief valve is stuck

jono2020 - 2/9/10 at 01:18 PM

Yer Im pretty sure I used the right oil grade. It has only just started happening tho to my knowledge so surely that would of happened as soon as I put the oil in...

Why? Those oil pressure readings for cold oil seem about right to me.
