Hi All my Son has a Renault scenic diesel 1500cc
The bigends went so we have rebuilt the engine now it will not start on the key but will start with a tow
the problem is it bellows white smoke out of the exhaust also if you rev it it rattles what can cause this ?
Thanks
Jacko
pump/valve timing or dribbleing/stuck injector would be my guess
Also check the glow plugs are working.
Renualt DCi :-( --- at least it is a 1.5 not one of the bigger ones
Sounds like timing to me.
Its not the timing the timing is right by the manual
Jacko
if this is a K9K 1.5 it is not pump timming as high pressure system with electronic injectors controlled by position sensor on flywheel (TDC sensor)
check. Did you remove the pistons as rings are prone to gumming up giving low compression if not check for air bubbles in fuel pipes make sure system
is completly bled and no diesel leaks on fuel return system, once it has started will it start on the key when warm ? and does it run smoothly when at
idle, any warning lights on ? Any idea why the big ends went ? unusual on this engine but on a lot of diesel engines the pistons hit on the head when
the ends go. hope this is of some help.

Is the pumped timed right? The cam sensor runs off the pump pulley on these.
how old you could find the injectors are coded

I'd be listening to John on this!
if they were put back in the same place this would not be a problem but have they?

What's wrong with a DCi. The one in my tintop chuggs along nicely doing 60mpg Only thing I dislike the crappy plastic cover on top of the engine, don't understand why manafacturers do that.
Hi All let me start from the top
The big end bearings went so my Son got a second hand short block we have fitted the head /cam injectors etc. to the block
we have fitted one new injector and had all of them celebrated /set up with a laptop
the timing is spot on pump/cam/ crank
it will start with a tow but not on the key
when running there is lots of white smoke out the exhaust and rattles if you try to rev it
The turbo has no play in it. Jacko
white smoke, Cold Engine (low temp) due
- timing (belt or pump)
- coolant-leak
- low compression
I would check timing 3 times.
Was the "old" engine running ok, before the big ends went?
