Zetec Conrod bolt torque
femster87 - 8/11/10 at 08:13 AM

changed my con-rod bolts yesterday to ARP ones. Just wanted to confirm torque. leaflet said 35 lbs/ft. Is this what everyone used?

i fitted them to my silver top and followed the instructions, which from memory had a 3 stage tightening sequence to torque to finally 35lb/ft, at first i thought it to be low but think the key thing is the use of the ARP grease.
its been ok on up to 7.2k

I've just read the Burton site and it states "If you do not have a stretch gauge, torque the bolts to 25ft-lbs using ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant" so is it 25 or 35 lbs? and is it tighten once or 3 times to the same torque?

Its actually higher torque than the stock conrod bolts are done up to...

I did mine to 25 with arp grease on thread and under head. seemed really low but we will see when I start it at the weekend

Can I ask where did you get 25 lbs from, just trying to work out why there seems to be tow schools of thought?

The confusion is because there are two different ARP bolt kits depending on exatcly which "zetec" you have.

The only place people should be getting torque specs from is https://arp-bolts.com/ and you should check by searcing on there for the exact model ARP bolt you have using the 7 digit model number

eg 151-6005 which is the zetec m9 conrod bolts and their spec is 36lbft https://cdn.arp-bolts.com/instructions/151-6005.pdf

or 151-6003 which is one of the other zetec conrod bolt kits and their specs is 25lbft https://cdn.arp-bolts.com/instructions/151-6003.pdf

Looks like the 6003 are for the 1.6L Zetec and the 6005 are for the 2L

But then this post seems to suggest that you can use 6003 in a 2ltr blacktop!

Reading more I've found this page http://www.westfieldsportscar.co.uk/sump.html
which states:
"For anyone looking to fit ARP bolts i can save you the hassels i had, there are 2 different size ARP con rod bolts, 8mm marked up for the 1.6 ltr zetec, and 9mm marked for the 2ltr zetec. As i found out after the place i ordered them from sent me the 9mm ones these are for the American spec 2 ltrs, all the UK zetec 2ltr engines use the 8mm bolts part number 151-6003"

Sounds like reasonable explanation - thoughts?
