Does any one know if the 2 litre 16v motor from the Primera can be used in RWD applications?
AFAIK it's an all alloy jobbie knocking out around 140 BHP as standard.
Maybe a gearbox and bellhousing from a Silvia Turbo or even an earlier Datsun might mate up?
What about the SX200 gearbox (and engine come to think about it)?
A quick google reveals the engine in the primera to be an SR20DE while the engine in the 200sx is the SR20DET.
Too close to be a coincidence surely. Same bellhousing pattern ? Probably.
is the sr20de engine the one in a primera gt? this is truely an awesome lump by all accounts, revs to 8k or more?
The 't' on the 200sx engine means Turbo.
My '95 eGT Primera recvs to 9,000 rpm and is rated at 150bhp.
Cheers,
Neil.
It is an SR20DE in the eGT and it's littler cousins like my SLX (doesn't rev as high, 125bhp)
the capitalisation is important, the SR20De for example is the single-point injection model (not as good).
pulsar GTI-R has the SR20DET in it, makes 230bhp stock I think. 4wd though.
So, in short, a 2.0 motor from a primera could - in theory - hook right up to a 200sx gearbox ?
Induction would have to be via a custom plenum I suppose. Unless you want to throw big money at throttle bodies and all that electro-sparkly-ecu-brain
type nonsense.
This engine was also used in the bonkers Tommy Kaira ZZ thing in the mid nineties.
That used quad Keihin carbs though. Flat slides and had zero driveability.
Look at the 2.0 Serena or Vanette vans. got to be worth a try. Remote gearchange and not too big. Don't know what ratios they use though.
Silvia/180SX/200SX all use the same RWD gearbox, as far as I can find out.
180SX was CA18 (na or turbo) up to 1991ish (to S13).
200SX is SR20DE (atmo) or SR20DET (turbo) from 1991ish (S14 on). Loved by Japs for drifting
Should be a straight bolt in. Later 200SX also had 6-speed option.
Beware of poor maintenance - irregular oil changes can block camshaft oil galleries and cause the camshaft to sieze, which breaks the timing chain and
lunches the valves/pistons!
Isn't the 200sx 'box a big hulking thing to handle the torque though? That is to say larger than a Ford Type 9?
No. Just a bit longer so you dont have to extend the gear lever and its a bit lighter. It fitted fine in my tunnel.

Was thinking of using the 200sx as a donor for my Autotune gemini.
The stock CA18DET in the pre 1995 200sx is a detuned engine and produces approx. 175 BHP.
With just a little freeing they will give 250.
(so i'm told)

As time goes by , this looks like a better option for me. THe gemini has a fair amount of room, and should be able to fit the intercooler in.

She is indeed a pretty thing.
oh and at the price mentioned above, i think i'll just stick with the 175 BHP
