Hi Guys,
Just wondering if somebody could possibly point me in the right direction.
I have an MK Indy with a st170 engine running with bike carbs (zxr9). At idle I have a lot of popping coming from the exhaust. I have felt around the
exhaust and there are a few gas leaks which need to be sorted but would this be enough to cause all of the popping?
I have a feeling the fuel/air mixture needs to be set but im not sure whether it is running too rich or too lean etc. When I have my foot on the pedal
and the revs up there is no popping noise from the exhaust. Im guessing this could have a big impact of performance too if the mixture is not set
correctly?
Cheers
Craig
popping on over-run is not uncommon. Its unbunt fuel igniting in the exhaust (or something similar)
However, best to get the mixture correct. A lean mixture and high RPM=dead engine in some cases. Needs a rolling road session or an AFR meter to check
and then adjust.
