Electric speedo sensor type 9

Im not sure if this is in the right place, ive treated myself to a digital dash but i dont fancy the magnet form of speedo pickup, i was wondering if there is something that fits the type 9 that can be used with an acewell digi dash.

anythoughts?

I'm not sure if the two can be combined - I'm sure someone will be along to tell you shortly. I do know people have used electric speedo outputs from a Type 9 gearbox, and Burton make the sensors to suit; the only bit I'm not sure about is if the two are directly compatible.

But, I do have an electronic gearbox unit from Burton, as well as the Type 9 adaptor that I was going to use before change of plan. If interested, and if it will work, drop me a U2U and I'll see if a) I can find them, and b) how much I'd like for them! Both are new and unused, still in packaging, and can provide receipt.

the burtons sensor will give out a certain number of pulses for every rotation of the prop shaft, as long as you can set up on your dash how many turns of the propshaft (or rather pulses from the sensor) equals whatever distance it needs to know, then you should be fine

thats a terrible explaination, but for example, my speedo needs to know how many pulses the sensor gives out per kilometer. if yours needs the same sort of info input, then the burton one should do fine

Don't know about the acewell, but my etb speedo works a treat with this set up.

Hi These are pictures of the Ford Sensor used in the EFI installations.

The sensor requires a different cable drive gear fitting in the box.
It has a different end that engages the sensor drive.

The original installation has a tab on the gearbox to locate the sensor.
As my box did not have the correct structure, I made my own.
The sensor seals with an 'O' ring on it's circumference.
It mounts on the oposite side of the gearbox to the cable drive and gives
5 pulses for 2 rotations of the output shaft.

Hi,

I did exactly like your wanting, I used the electric sender from Burton Power but needed to make a small circuit to let the Acewell work with it, I found it much much better than the magnets and it's not missed a beat.

I've been trying to find one of those senders for ages.

I have a nice late-model Type 9 that uses that kind of sender sitting on my garage floor. It could be fitted to my car if I had one of those...

why don't you like the magnet senders?
i've just bought an acewell dash too, and i've just installed the magnet sender that came with it, works brilliantly!
Very quick pickup and refreshes quicker than you will notice, also very easy to install!

Don't bother, or if you really want to, go to work, turn up an adaptor out of ali, then cut a hole in your tunnel, go around scrap yards to find the ford sensor, source an appropriate sized circlip, fit it, wire it to the acewell, spend all day trying to faff around with it getting it to work then read the instructions, which say something like "you can use any electronic speed sensor as long as it's exactly like ours - any other sensors will need specialist set up and or complete redesign of the pick up circuit - for these applications you may as welll not bother buying our speedo"

Then drill your prop flange and fit the supplied magent and pickup and get it working in 10 mins.................................

If it's a 3251, 3252, or 4xxx, or 7xxx series it will work with most OEM gearbox sensors, the lesser (& cheaper!) Acewells have a slower processor which will only work at lower frequencies - more info on my website www.furoreproducts.co.uk just look thro' the FAQ's

However the standard setup with magnet works absolutely perfectly, it's all I ever use on the cars I build & never had any issues with calibration at IVA, the speedo works steadily from about 2-3mph upwards.

It's a 3252 iirc, I bought it at stoneleigh, it was sold to me as having a faster processor allowing an oem sensor to just be connected up to it. In fact I was told all I would need was an adaptor to fit the sensor to a type 9, and was even pointed in the direction of the etb stand to get said item (which I didn't bother buying luckily)

It may have a faster processor but it still won't work without additional circuitry to modify the output of the sensor to suit the acewell, hey ho, like you said the magnet works well and it does look nice in black...................
