Now I really need your help. I messed up when I was “investigating” how my Type 9 gearbox works. I couldn’t help myself, I just had to take a look...
Everything went fine up until I discovered that I wasn’t able to put the two halves (cast iron and aluminium) back together. Then I saw some small “pins” that had fallen out. I tried to put them back but I couldn’t get them to stay in place.
There are three pins that has fallen out (see picture). They sit in a gear in the aluminium part of the gearbox. There is a “wire spring” inside the gear that pushes the pins out. When I separated the two halves of the box I pulled them to far apart and the casing holding the pins in slid of the gear.
I searched previous posts for help. I saw that old Haynes Sierra manuals cover the gearbox but I don’t seem to be able to find an old enough Haynes manual.

Can anyone please tell me how to get the pins back in place?
Does anyone have some sort of instruction on how to put a Type 9 back together?

they are the detents that go in the synchro hubs,put the detents onto the hub and slide the sleve over the top then replace wire springs,probly need another pair of hands to do it tho

ebay is a good source for old haynes manuals which have full details of strip and rebuild of a type 9 box.

A zip tie might be the appropriate second set of hands. You may be able to use one to hold bits in place whilst you slide the sleeve far enoughto hold things and then remove the zip tie.
