Need to pull out my CA18DET. I undo the engine mounts, the transmission mounting bolts, the wires and the hoses, and then what? Do I just pull it out
towards the front? What can I attach the hoist chain to? I am on my own on this unfortunately and I was not present when it went in.

Often when pulling an engine on a crane, the carafe will walk towards the nose, I tied the crane to something solid and bricks under the wheels of the car, that way you get some leverage.
The engine and box can sometimes be quite tight on the dowels requiring a bit of leverage
to separate but normally part easily with a tug. You'll need to pull it forward a few inches to
clear the gearbox input shaft from the clutch. If there are no lifting eyes on the engine then
wrap a rope round the manifolds or even right round under the sump. If the latter be careful
of the balance point.
having had the engine in and out of the Fury more often than a fiddlers elbow, albeit a zetec, and with inboard suspension, I would say take a good
look at the things that it might crash into as you remove it,.. radiator is a fav, especially if it is a new one, it will attract a pointy part of the
engine like a big magnet and leave you with a damp sensation around the ankles!
I would suggest strongly that you have an assistant for the job, if Debbie Mcgee is not available then perhaps some kind hearted soul that is near
enough on here might pop round. Two people swearing at the engine will always help it to come free much more quickly than just HMV.
