Another dumb pinto question
Andi - 30/6/12 at 08:11 PM

This is only the second engine I have ever worked on. Both being pintos`s so to say my knowledge is challenged would
be an understatement.

The last one had a suspected cracked head so I am swapping the Kent FR32 cam onto the new head and thought I may as well put in new valve seals.
On the old engine it did not have the cap ("A" in the photo) and just looked like the "B" guide.
So my question is are the cap thingys needed?

Ok, so the black rubber is the stem seal (which i know you need) and the dish type thing is the valve guide seal that I also need.

Thanks

You do t need the Cap things just the seals is ok

IF your head has the valve stem seals with the spring seat washer, then the head has been modified to take the CVH type valve stem seals which are technicaly better than the standard Pinto seals as the CVH ones CAN'T ride up the the valve and off the guide. Hence you will have better oil control. So IF your head has been modified to take the later CVH Valve stem oil seals then those are the ones that you SHOULD use.

Hope this helps and makes sense.
