wouldn't go for anything bigger than carbs off a 600 and they could be too big on a std 1.3L xlfo

The Xflow ports are small so 600's are more than enough
Approx 32mm rear port diameter on the carbs
600's are cheaper
The carbs are variable Venturi so size is not as much of an issue as webers but you still want the slides and needles to work or your tuning on the idle and mid range circuits

As I don't have much of a clue, why would a carb be 'too big'? Is it too big as it wouldn't give any extra benefit, or is there potential running issues with too big carbs?

Its all about gas speed, if you imagine a piston descending and sucking in the mixture through a 30mm port, the gas speed through that port is higher than through say a 40mm port, so putting a 40mm carb on a 30mm port would effectively slow the flow through the carb compared to the port..

That is also why there is an optimum size for ports and tuning shops invest £000's in flow meters and the like.

Tidy up the ports, remove the mass production flaws, and fit carbs which are as close to the port size as you can get.

Dont just look at sports bikes, for example, a yamaha R6 has 36mm carbs (IIRC) but a fazer 600 has 32mm carbs, similarly with 900, you will always pay a premium for the sports bike carbs so look to the 'lesser' models too.

These should be ok mate, you will have to rejet them though. They also already have a tps sensor on the side just in case you get a mega jolt or similar for your ignition

HONDA CB600 HORNET 98-03 PARTS CARBS CARBURETTORS

These have a broken tps sensor which will be ok if you don't need one and are cheaper.

Honda CB600F CB600 CB 600 F Hornet 04 Carb Carburettor

Cheers
