Pointed a torch up there today and could not see past the splined bit to see old/failed oil seal. Bad picture, I know but here is what I could see.....

Should I be able to see the oil seal in the output shaft of a type 9 gearbox?

It sits right at the end I can see it in the photo its the rubber ring pushedninto the end the shaft passes through it.
Andy make sure that the end of the propshaft (the bit that runs against the seal) is nice and polished no burrs or marks on it otherwise it will damage the new seal and you will be back to square 1!

It's the bit lying just inside the tail extension of the gearbox, roughly crossed by the red zigzag. Might be the angle of the pic but it looks
to me as if the seal is not in square, seeming deeper in at 4 o'clock ish position. Might just be the pic. There is space between the output
shaft and the seal to get a nice hooky slide hammer in or crudely lever it out with a screwdriver.

I thought that might be it. I will have a look today and see if it is in square, and will try and remove it some how. Now my g/box is empty of all oil
should not be too hard. Need to get this done by Wednesday latest 
no pressure as usual!!!
