7" LSD rebuild - info/parts etc

I want to give my LSD a good service, obviously the bearing rebuild kits are readily available and will be doing this as part of the build, but im more interested in refreshing the LSD side of things. Ive read about replacing fluid etc? does anyone have any gen on doing it? an pitfalls etc?

Bara motorsport in brum have quoted me £260 to rebuiuld my diff and change oil to take it to 150NM. Have a look on Passion for Ford website they all rate him.

that was the advice i got from road and race transmissions when i took my lsd in for a rebuild. they looked at it, said it was fine and gave it back.

Just replace the seals and refresh the oil, my car has a standard LSD unit that has covered in excess of 100,000 miles and it still try's to push the car in a straight line on tight bends, these cars are so light you do not need it tightened up.

If its a plate diff and it was originally set up for a heavy car there is much to be gained by getting the ramps and plates etc set up correctly for a light car. The difference is very noticeable as the characteristics required are very different.

If its a Quaiffe diff and its quiet and leak free there is nothing to be gained. Leave it where it is.

If its a viscous diff from a 4 x 4 I believe there are various types of fluid available to suit various uses, what (if any) difference they make I have no idea.

I have a 7" diff that I am about to strip and rebuild .

If you google "ford sierra diff rebuild guide"
You will find a manual , stripping it looks fairly easy, you need to make or buy a tool to undo the bearing caps on the output shafts.
PuttIng it back together looks quite tricky as u need a dial gauge, I don't much about rebuilding a diff so hope that helps.

^^ its the actual viscous LSD bit thats tricky to rebuild - the rest of the diff is just like any other
