Engine Sump Reduction

How much do i need to reduce the sump by on my MX5 engine before installing?

Enough so that it doesn't drag along the floor?! Difficult question to answer given the amount of information you have given....

Which engine?
Which chassis?
Whose engine mounts?

Have you test fitted the engine? Most people would test fit, measure up, then remove and make the modifications needed to give you the clearance you need. Obviously check inside the sump as the design of the sump or the pick ups might be what governs the amount you can chop.

I reduce mine to the level of the gearbox.

That was enough to have the sump a couple of mm above the bottom chassis rail.

Exactly What i did, worked ok on a Zetec and striker, but its hard to tell what will suit an unfailliar body.
Best to do it to suit bottom clearance and fettle body work IF it doesnt quite fit (bulges, cut outs etc)
