Duratec port sizes
davidimurray - 27/6/14 at 07:28 PM

Currently sorting out bits ahead of buying a duratec.

Could someone with an engine check a few dimensions for me:-
What is the diameter of the exhaust ports at the manifold face?
What is the width and height of the inlet ports at the manifold face

Cheers

Ex are 37mm in diameter

Thanks those are great, I can get on and sort some more bits out.

Notice your popping yours in a Haynes, mine will be going in a Haynes too, should be a nice upgrade from my 1800 pinto.

Your welcome, I'm still converting my engine to rwd just need to baffle the sump and a new oil filter head to change filter orientation then its gear box n clutch.... Then the build will start.....

So you have a running kit with pinto now upgrading to a duratec, what sort of induction you gunna use and power gains u hoping for?

Tony.....

Yes, passed IVA start of Nov 2013, DVLA finally got me a reg a few days before xmas and first run out was xmas eve. Since then I've covered about 1200 miles in the car. Chose the single sierra donor route as it means I got an age related plate so higher emmissions and no need for a cat.

Current setup is 1800 pinto on ZX6R carbs with megajolt - at a guess is producing 90-100 horse but not had it on a dyno to check as I've done the setup myself. Despite being an 1800 pinto still goes like hell although starts to run out of puff above 65-70.

As I am a bit tight on money, plan is to reuse as much as possible - so will be keeping the ZX6r carbs with a new manifold, megajolt, fuel pump, tank etc. Exhaust will be my pinto one cut and modified.

At the moment I am slowly collecting bits for the conversion this winter, so far I've collected :-

Bellhousing + slave cylinder (had planned to go cable but got hydraulic bellhousing cheap!)
clutch
st150 starter
St150 flywheel
fuel rail and injectors (not needed yet)
exhaust manifold flange and gasket
mechanical thermostat (buy from caterham they are cheap!)
Sump drawings-just need to get a set laser cut.

I've done a bit of research and the zx6r carbs/fuel pumps seem to be good for upto 170bhp on things like Zetecs. With my setup I would be happy if I could get 150bhp, which should be a fair bit more exciting when combined with 45kg weight saving!

Longer term plan then is to upgrade, fuel injection, megasquirt, TBs and new fuel tank.

Lots of pictures of my original build on the facebook links in my sig - should be public so no need to be on facebook.

Would be interested to see what you are doing for the oil filter - I've been pondering whether to buy bits for remote filter or the raceline adaptor, or even make my own!

Out of interest have you looked at engine mounts yet? Was gonna make my own but wondered if anyone had a drawing of hole spacings either side so I could make a head start and get the engine plates made.

If I can help in anyway just give me a shout.

Cheers

Dave

I can help you with a ex manifold flange got my engine's one still if you want it. Its a mild steel one off a fiesta st. Engine mounts wise I have got some plates but I will retro fit once I have a chassis to drop the engine into. As for filter head its a raceline one all the way.
I have a rwd timing chain cover I am in the middle of modding, machined off the engine mount block and counter bored the 3 holes and I might paint it wrinkle black, or could leave it bare alloy like the one in my kit car album on fb, if you need or want it let me know......

Cheers Tony......

Thanks for the offer, I'm ok for an exhaust flange as already picked one up and have the CAD for an inlet so will get one laser cut.

Just been having a look at your pics, lovely looking build - all the best going forward

Cheers

I used a fiesta st engine in my mgb. Goes like stink! I'm using suzuki throttle bodies (only 35mm) and it produces 175bhp and 176lbs/ft. That's with standard fiesta ex manifold too. I used st flywheel, St clutch cover and mondeo plate. Also made own mounts, there a great engine!

That sounds promising then - zx6r carbs are 37.5mm
