While trying to undo a nut on a very old (1926) BAS motor bike, one of the teeth broke on the cam lobe gear. It a complex little bit of machining as
the cam lobe and the gear are machined from the same piece of material. Being 1926 and very rare a now one is not on the cards.....So, does anyone
know of a specialist company who can repar these sort of things?.
Thanks.
Any decent engineering machine shop should be able to repair that. They'll probably mill out the entire tooth and a fair depth into the gear
itself, then braze a suitably machined lump of cast iron in and then re-cut the tooth.
A look through the Yellow pages and some time on the phone should find someone reasonably local.
I was looking recently to get a lathe gear repaired, and couldn't find anyone who advertises gear repairs specifically. So looks like you'll have to ring around...
