Valve clearances

Can anyone tell me the correct valve spring clearances for a standard 1600 xflow? I've seen so many different settings!

10 thou inlet, 22 thou exhaust.

Depends on cam and possibly engine.

I have mk2 escort haynes that covers 1100, 1300 and 1600 engines inc gt version so could check up plus i have kent (?) cam data that lists clearances for different cams.

What you got?

The OP asked for clearances on a 1600 x-flow thus no point in providing clearances for an 1100 or 1300.

The OP said its standard thus no point providing clearances for loads of aftermarket cams.

There are several specs of 1600 but the only one anyone would fit in a Seven would surely be the 2V version fitted in an Escort, it is clearances for that version I have provided.

But should the engine be lower spec or even a 1100 or 1300 its not that different. All variants have exhaust clearances of 22 thou. All 2V variants have inlet clearances of 10 thou. All the remaining have inlet clearances of 8 thou.

Valve clearances or valve spring coil gap at full lift?

Monty2556 - 27/7/15 at 08:15 PM

You're correct, Paul. The 1600 came out of a 1970 Mexico. Many thanks for the info.

OK. Whats the difference between valve clearance and coil gap at full lift? This is a new one on me!

with the spring gaps you are getting into another lot of rationale if the cam was non standard, standard valve springs can bind not allowing the valve to fully open wit an old engine it would be advisable to know and ched=ck th e poundage of the spring to ensure there is no major deterioration
