I've only ever seen 1 kitcar with an xe hooked up to a carlton box, that was a fury that was at donnington show last year. Sure there are more out there in the woodwork... what box did skippad/stu16v use?

more info/explanation on this donut/splines issue?

Ned.

Type 9 Ned, so I could change the ratios' to some that are actually suitable for the job. I did, and it is the best upgrade I have done so far...

re more info on spline,s/rubber doughnut
..................................................................
pre 87 carlton box,s have normal
prop with splined output shaft
later models have rubber doughnut style coupling
the reason for the question is cost........
a type 9 bellhousing is circa £150
a carlton box is £30...£60

i know sierra's have the rubber dont on the end of the prop, in this instance you change the type of the end of the prop to a transit end to resolve the issue. Sorry I can't be much help on this one. Have you tried asking on the vauxhall forum, migweb? just a thought..

I have the Carlton box on the rubber doughnut, but it's on a Calrton 8v not an XE.

I changed the end of the Sierra prop for the gearbox end od the carlton prop.

Incedently rubber doughnuts are often used to absorb transmission shocks when gear changing hard. Also the carlton prop has a large balance wheel attached to the same points as the doughtnut, which I assume is also there to smooth the transmission.

Some pictures are avaliable in (Dec2003 - As it was in the Carlton, Apr2004 - close up of the output flange, May2004 - Best pic I have of the prop attached)

I did remove the balance weight ring as this uses quite a bit of space and is weight I could really do without.

Hope this helps
