Starter motor identification
Plunky - 16/1/18 at 06:34 PM

Hi,
I’m trying to find a replacement starter motor for my F27. It is running a 2.0 blacktop zetec with type 9 gearbox, and the starter is exhaust side.
I’m having serious trouble trying to find one as there are no markings or numbers on the old one.
I managed to order what I thought was the right one from Euros, but turns out the solenoid was the wrong side.
Any ideas? Does anyone know what vehicle it would have originally come from?
I’ve tried Sierras etc but they all seem to have the solenoid on the wrong side.
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks,
Liam

That’s what I thought, but when I search for one the pictures appear to have the solenoid on the opposite side...

whats wrong with your starter motor anyway? as they are very easy to fix/sort out with new brushes etc for a fraction of the cost of a new one, assuming one of the windings hasn't burnt out

or try this place, that I randomly found by searching " recon Starter motor"

Also depends on what flywheel was used. There are various routes open to a builder, so impossible to say which one it would be based on just being a Zetec and Type 9.

Give me a call if you want one at cost price. I've done a few starters and alternators for people on here.

Ok so I’ve ordered a Granada one as it looked like the right one. It turned up today and doesn’t fit, in typical fashion of everything I ever buy for this damn car!!
The Granada unit is about 15mm too long and the bolt holes do not line up, ever so slightly.

I’ll post some pictures up of the old one if someone could help ID it from that...

apologies for the images being so big! no idea how to resize!

big_wasa - 18/1/18 at 05:59 PM

Have you got a link to the dohc starter you have ordered ? The main differance to the cvh stater is the solenoid position. How fat the body is and how long the body is vairys according to the manufacture.

I did offer to sort you out with a starter but if you're intent on buying euro car parts rubbish then offer withdrawn. Seems you're all making a mountain out of a molehill. Should talk to someone who knows whats what

£59.55 delivered for an LRS707

Hi,
I was merely going off information I was given, and Euros seem to have the best price.
You kindly offered your services after I had ordered the what turns out to be crap from Euros...
If your offer still stands then I would gladly welcome it. Can you confirm that the LRS707 that you're selling has the same dimensions as my old one that I have pictured? as I'm not sure they are all the same?
Please PM me with payment details etc.
Thanks for your help.

starterman - 19/1/18 at 07:53 AM

PM sent, also with the correct price. Whic is as per my normal offer of cost price. Which is £45 delivered. I have no idea where I got the other price from. I put it down to age !!!!

AFAIK the only size difference on the 707s is between older factory fit starters that are much fatter, they are really obvious. And they can still fit if you dont have the 2 stage alloy sump. Ie an older adapted CVH sump.
99% of ones jve seen are the newer slim style

starterman - 19/1/18 at 08:00 AM

The difference is an LRS707 is a Lucas and the smaller one is a valeo version.

Update:

Good news, the starter motor supplied by starterman fits perfectly! You sir are a legend!

Only thing I have noticed though is there is a loud screech when it first starts up. I also took the car up the road and noticed the screeching sound as the revs build. Any ideas? Could this be the starter not disengaging?
