Oil or Loctite on Xflow rod bolts?
GaryM - 22/12/19 at 02:46 PM

Hi Guys

Finally got round to rebuilding my 1600 Xflow, it's only been 3 years! and I've forgotten almost everything I learned from last time I did it!

Please could you advise on whether I should oil the threads of the (heavy duty) Ford con rod bolts (to make sure I get the correct torque setting) or alternatively use Loctite (to stop them falling out)?

Many thanks in advance.

Gary

Built loads of pre and cross flows in the 70s, plenty of lube on the bearings but dry threads, check the threads run free and don't bind which will fool the torque wrench.

I also have built many xflows, and have always run a die and tap on all the threads first on a dry run
cleaned, then painted

Ive never used Loctite or oil on ANY threads

I'd totally agree with the above, use nothing on them

Except a torque wrench.
