Help on identifying zetec's
Mr Perfect - 29/1/05 at 06:20 PM

Hi all

Have been out today to find a zetec engine.
But i am now uncertain which is which?

I lifted up the bonnets of some Mondeos to find some said zetec on the cam cover (OK but all sold), but some said DOHC (NO zetec casting on the cam cover) and no badges on the car.

Don't want to end up with the 1800 DOHC (twin cam pinto type thing)!!!

Regards

Nik

I think the earlier ones had the same engine as the later sierras (DOHC I4)

Any 4 cylinder petrol engined Mondeo has a zetec under the bonnet .
Ye olde I4 engine never made it into the mondeo.

Do you know when they changed to zetec then e.g. M reg etc

And i know it is a stupid question but will they all say zetec on the cover?

What I'm saying is - if you are looking under the bonnet of a petrol engined Mondeo and it's a 4 cylinder engine, then it is a zetec. Regardless of what it does or doesn't say on the cam cover.
No other 4 cylinder petrol motor was ever fitted in there.

Unless it's a very recnt car in which case it's a duratec. In that case you will be paying big bucks for the engine

Early mondeos had DOHC on their CAM covers.

They *are* zetec engines, though.
