clio not moving
tri - 27/5/05 at 10:51 AM

As much as I hate the Clio my sister has I have to ask if anyone knows what is wrong with it. I was just looking at it for her and I floored the pedal and it did nothing more than idle and there is a wee orange light with a spiral and a spiky wave above it (like heartbeat just to try to give a clear idea). Sorry I can’t be very helpful in description and I can’t find the wee book to see what it means so can anyone help

The reason I ask is that it sounds like a glow plug warning light.

If it is then you arent the only one with the problem:

Sounds like the engine management system warning light do you think?

Might be fuel pressure regulator, ECU, damp in the wiring, broken throttle cable....

Hmm - any help??

i had a clio 172 cup
this had fly by wire throttle ( it had to be changed 3 times in two years ) this had the same stmptoms as you are talking about.
just got rid of it know after two years it went back to the dealership for the following at various times
2 x seat tilt levers
dash rattle
1 x gearbox mount
1 x engine mount
3 x throttle pedals
1 x ecu
8 x rear shockers
2 x front shockers
2 x front lower arms
2 x lower ball joints
2 x trackrod ends
1 x rear exhaust mount
radio fault

and god knows how many other bits ive forgotten

plus the fact the deaalership tried to charge me for the parts even though it has a three year warranty !!!!!!!!!!

just bought a golf gti 16v for the misses f reg and it has less rattles than a 2 year old clio !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

french cheap rubbish is my only conclusion

My thoughts too!

I have never had the misfortune to buy a Renault, but being spanner handy generally means being treated as the local garage by mates, which is fine (as they don't buy french crap either!) but then I end up working on their girlfriend's cars too. I now refuse to work on anything with Renault badge, they are total and utter cheap sh1t. If I do get a request, the answer is now "sell it and get something decent"

French cars are cheap.

You get what you pay for.

Nuff said

in their defence, i used to work for renault, and whilst they have their problems, if you get a good 'un, they are cracking motors.

I no longer work for them, so have no affiliation or reason to defend them, other than I do actually believe they are good cars.

Where I work just now we just took delivery of 15 new ford focus', and 3 of them broke down within a day. So, I would suggest its not any 1 manufacturer, but quality control across the board.

Have a problem with any car, and the dealerships will all tell you the same thing, which is that it's a mass produced vehicle built to tolerances, and thats why they provide the warranty.. sad but thats the way it is at the moment.

thats why I drive a £300 car, and will just buy another when it breaks down

oh, and as an after thought, i knew they had trouble with the pencil coils in some models. Did yours have this?

Are you close to Cambuslang. I could plug my scanner into it for you if your not to far away.

All i ask in return would be a peek at someones chassis whose ahead of me.

Always happy to help
