Cleaning my engine
unixguy - 27/7/05 at 01:07 AM

So.. I finally got myself a Blade :] It is a little grubby however - wouldn't it be great if it was shiny? :]

What do you recommend I use to clean it up? It isn't rusted/corroded/oily, the metal is just very dull looking.

Thanks.

If it's just a case of it being dull looking then unfortunately you can't beat hard work..............brushing rigorously with a hard nylon brush buffs ally castings up nicely.

is it ok to use acetone on me engine? to get rid of thick oil and grease?

cheers

Don't see any reason why not but it's a bit ott. Paraffin is a cheaper and easier alternative.

I just use a pressure washer, then final nitpick with paraffin.

Spray with Gunk (or acetone, or paraffin), leave for 5 minutes, then blast with a pressure washer. Rinse and repeat until engine is clean.

Make sure anywhere water could get into the engine is blocked and all bits of wiring and electronics are removed from the engine before hand!
