exhaust rubber bobbin mounting

Daft question .........

what's the best orientation for the rubber bobbin between the chassis and the exhaust.

Is it threaded bit.....

vertical
horizontal nearside to offside
horizontal front to rear

??????

just thinking that it makes the most sense to do horizontal front to rear as the engine will wobble that way when running - yet it gives the least support.

Next idea is vertical - just worried that I'll get it wrong........

def vertical in my view

Ive gone through a few exhaust mountings and have settled on vertical mounting them. If the bobbin is horizontal they seem to fail very quickly .The rubber needs to be in compression rather than shear in my opinion.My present one is a rectangular rubber and i have drilled it and loosely fitted a bolt with a lock nut as a safety measure.

I have one vertical to take the weight and one horizontal to soak up lateral movement. Rescued attachment exhaustmount.JPG

We don't use them anymore but they should ALWAYS be mounted in compression.

I've been using a spherical bearing now for some months and it is far far better.
