Can anyone comment on the use of an RS 2000 engine (2.0L 16V)? Advantages? Disadvantages?
Seems like an interesting option, with 150 bhp on tap......
Is it a tuned DOHC or something?
it is a 16V engine based on the Pinto block. Disadvantage is that it is heavy and tuning parts are difficult to come by. You could adapt the standard injection if you get it all
I thought the RS 2000 had a zetec E, could be wrong though.

You are both wrong. The later RS2000 (the 16v version, Mk 6 Escort?) was a 16 valve version of the unpopular DOHC engine as used in Sierras and
Granadas.
The block bears no resemblance to a Pinto block and none of it resembles a Zetec.
I think it's an OK sort of engine but IMO is far to big/heavy for a Se7en.
OK, so the person I know with one is a lying goit, nothing new there!

Mr Walker beat me to it there. The engine in the RS2000 is infact a 8v 2.0l twincam found in later sierra's/granadas but with a ford 16v produced
head. It was known as the '14' in it's 8v guise, not sure if it still was in its 16v form. Timing chain problems if not maintained
properly within service intervals - expensive to sort out/ replace if those things do go wrong. A few articles in Fast ford/ Performance ford about
tuning and the in's and outs of the engine + companies that specialise in tuning them.
BIT OF INFO

I have a MK 5 16v DHOC RS 2000 ready to fit to my MK Indy. The block is identical to the 2ltr pinto. All i have to do, is tap the relevent engine mounting holes. hope this is of some use!
Guys, thanks for the information. Concerning the weight: does anyone dare to give a "guestimation" how much the difference with a 2L Zetec is? Or a Vauxhall 2.0 16V? Is the difference considerable or not?

Fraid not fast westie!
I am using the DOHC 8v engine in my build
The internals are completely different from the pinto
Its different from the sump right up to the rocker cover
Can't vouch for the Cossy engine( but wish I could)
I'll tell you again, the DOHC 8v & 16v is not the same as a Pinto. The fact that it replaced the Pinto in the Granada & Sierra meant that
the engine pick up points etc were much the same, and like all Fords the gearbox mountings are the same. Nothing else is - GOT IT?
The Sierra Cosworth 2wd block and Sierra 2.0 Pinto blocks are identical.
Weight wise I would think that the 16v DOHC engine weighs a little more than the XE Vauxhall and a fair bit (maybe 20kgs) more than a Zetec, but thats
a guess.
If you were never going to tune your engine then the DOHC 16v motor would be fine but if you do then you would be better going for the Zetec. The
Vauxhall would be even better. The switch from DOHC to Zetec at a later date should be fairly simple.
