Clutch Release Bearing Alignment
Mr G - 15/8/06 at 01:17 AM

Morning,

Thought i'd dig out the genuine ford clutch release bearing that did'nt do much mileage with the box before being taken out.

It seems possible to press on the plastic shaft section and move it so that its offset compared to the main flat faced top bearing disc. Now i've never noticed this before in any that i've fitted so I was wondering if this might be problematic.

Here's 2 pictures as an example, one with it pushed straight so that everything is aligned, the other has been moved and offset.

Aligned

Shifted Top Right

Not quite sure what the score would be if it shifted while in use and if the pressure release plate fingers would re-centre it.

Anyone got a spare (same design) they can have a gander at before this box goes in cos for the life of me I can't remember if it was like this when fitted!

Cheers

G

Thats normal, the 2 bearings that i have are the same.I think what happens it will find its true centre in relation to pressure plate on contact with it and not to the thrust bearing support,if you see what i mean.
