theohighland - 1/1/07 at 09:22 PM

does anyone know where the best place to find a crossflow for reasonable money in the kent area? or where the best place to look for one is as all the ones i see on ebay are all to far to go to collect?

Thanks,
Theo

Try Silverlake garage (scrapyard) in Southampton, they will post it to you.

I found a runner on e-bay I think there may be one there at the moment.
Lincolnshire though.

What are you after? A tuned lump that is ready to drop in, or a rusty lump out of an Escort / Cortina for you to rebuild?

If it's the second one, you could try Partfinder or one of the other online or telephone parts services - they send a request to all of the breakers yards and then they get in touch with you with a price.

Most breakers will post stuff (even engines) to you - costs about £50.

Not sure what part of Kent you are in, but there's a good breakers in Sussex called G Bridgers which is pretty much next to Pease Pottage services on the M23.

Failing all that, I'll be selling my tuned 1660 Xflow once my Zetec turbo conversion is finished.....

well really im looking for the best i can afford, and if i find that all i can afford is a rusty one then thats what i'll have to get, but ideally i want one that is already a runner once fitted, and i'd tune it from there.

Im in tonbridge, so sussex isnt too far for me to go.

when do you think you might be selling ur xflow? although im sure it'll be out of my budget (im a poor student!)

Cheers, Theo

There are a few on ebay at the moment within 30 miles or so of TW, so about the same from Tonbridge. Make sure that you search for all the varaints of the word, like crossflow, xflow, x/flow, x flow, cross flow etc.

Regarding mine, I don't really want to sell it until my Zetec conversion is complete (because it's a kind of safety net that I can go back to!). It won't be going cheap, and I think I will sell it as a complete package with everything - twin 40 carbs, dizzy, inlet manifold, alternator, leads, coil, engine mounts, breather pipes and probably a 4-1 exhaust as well.

As a rough guess I'll be looking for the best part of a grand for it all, because it's a sweet engine with lots of toys - A2 fast road cam, alloy rocker cover, duplex timing chain, light flywheel, big valve Vulcan Engineering Maxiflow head, high comp pistons (10:1), dowelled cam sprocket, high pressure oil pump, hardened valve seats, lightened crank, Race Tech dizzy, all built by Vulcan Engineering with receipts to prove.

Still, if I find a decent mk1 escort, then it'll probably find it's way into that instead!

They are great engines - cheap enough to fiddle with without bankrupting yourself but very tough too as long as you treat them well. And they make an amazing noise!

Good luck with the build!

Tom
