C20XE > Type 9 Box?
dan__wright - 2/2/07 at 10:05 AM

Hi,

im planning on building a MK indy but im currently at the research stange, been reading a lot of stuff.

i plan on using the searra engine / box to get me through SVA and use for a few months, after this i want to put a c20Xe in, i have read that this can be used with the ford type 9 gearbox, i know you need a special cluthplate but is theer anything else you need or does it just fit straight on?

also, does anyone know if i will be able to get it in the MK indy withount chassis mods? i know i will have to put a shorter sump on it (prob going to dry sump anyway), and will have custom manifolds so that bit shoulnt be an issue and i dont mind if i have to have a bonnet bulge.

Thanks
Dan

you will need the correct bellhousing for the gearbox to mate the two. there are two types one that has the engine upright and on that leans it over by 7 degrees.

I got mine from Yukspeed. The guy was very helpful on the phone, I said what I was putting it in and he recommended what to do, which bellhousing to go for, which bits to get (clutch, release arm/bearing/spigot, the lot really). I'm pretty sure he's also cheaper than SBD

yep Yukspeed nr Malton are a good source for XE to type 9 bits

There a 4 different versions in total depending on what version of the type 9 you are going to use.

Type 9 Normal Length input shaft Vertical
Type 9 Normal Length input shaft 7 Degree

Type 9 V6 long input shaft Vertical
Type 9 V6 long input shaft 7 Degree

The caterham ones you can pick up second hand are v6 long input shaft vertical.

To have a choice of bolting up both types of boxes you really want the type 9 normal length vertical bellhousing and if at a later date want to fit the HD v6 type 9 with better ratios then you just have to buy the 1" adapter plate instead of a whole new bellhousing.

Cheers

G

thanks for the info everyone.

ive had a look and saw the 4 different types and it looks like the straight short dellhousing is the one i need.

what what exactly do i need, Obv the c20xe engine, the type 9 box (non v6), the bell housing, clutch plate? anything else?
Thanks again

Spigot bearing, clutch release bearing, a method of actuating the clutch (either mechanical cable/arm or hydraulic), a suitable sump. Depending on your installation you might want/have to go for throttle bodies etc but that's up to you really.

thanks for the info, wasnt sure if i would need differenr bearings or not.

im going to be using webbers or bike TBs so that should be ok, also plan on dry sumping it so sump height shouldnt be an issue.
