chrisg - 20/3/07 at 10:27 PM

Hey Up

Which bike carbs would be best for a 2.0 litre Zetec engine?

cheers

Chris

Some people are using GSXR 600's or 750's.

grahamgg - 20/3/07 at 10:39 PM

R1 carbs are popular, but any from a 600 upwards,,

Nick Rogers - 20/3/07 at 10:42 PM

If you're going with megajolt for sparks, try and get a set of carbs with a TPS included, saves a bit of hassle later

I'm not sure Chris, early days for our Zetec I "think" the later the bike, the more likely to have a TPS, something to do with emmisions on later bikes ?

chrisg - 20/3/07 at 11:37 PM

Thanks chaps.

so let's start a list(!)

Blackbird
and....

Cheers

I have 1999 R1 carbs tied to a Boggs Brothers manifold. Had the head ported and planed .025 inches. Estimate the engine is doing around 170 hp. Sounds sweet and awesome performance. I had to do some fiddling with the main and idle jets to get the right size (and you can buy these as std sizes). Am very pleased

cryoman1965 - 21/3/07 at 08:56 AM

GSXR 600 srad,

ZX6/7/9 later models

R1, although they fetch stupid money£150+

coozer - 21/3/07 at 09:25 AM

I'm using ZZR1100 carbs but they have no TPS. I may go for some zx9 carbs or try and fit the TPS off the Ford inlet manifold.

Thanks everybody - gives me a start!

Blade carbs seem a better price, and luckily bogg bros recomended them for ease of set up so thats what i did.

UncleFista - 21/3/07 at 02:02 PM

Chris, have a word with Malc at Yorkshire engines. In the last lot of TBs he had up for sale, there were a few sets of carbs available. He specialises in low-milage engines, he might have something ?

TangoMan - 21/3/07 at 07:13 PM

Anything over 38mm should be OK for a standard 2.0 Zetec.
I opted for 42mm TB's and think they are too big for a standard engine. Small throttle openings at low revs gives 100KPa so it makes it very sensitive at low throttle.
They will be good once I tune up though!!
Most bike carbs come with TPS but if not they can be sourced from Maplins very cheaply.

Kawasaki zx9r ---e carbs have tps and are 41mm

You know when you go on e-bay and you get carried away and bid on lots of stuff, just in case?

Well I appear to have bought some GSXR750 carbs. For £10.50.

Any TPS on those?

Cheers

Chris

Edit I've solved this one myself - no TPS, what does Maplins list them as?

(It's not Throttle position sensors BTW!)
