
Afternoon chaps and chapettes
I've been floating about for a while but just registered as I now need some advice on a couple of things.
I've got a 1987 BMW e30 which has a 1.8 carb engine in at present.
I've recently bought these bike carbs off ebay

The lpan is to stick those carbs onto the 1.8 carb engnie as its a bit wheezy and they were a sight cheaper than the twin webers I was looking at!
So, from what I've read my plan is:
Clean the carbs
Use the fuel pump from the fzs600 bike the carbs came off
fit the carbs
fit ss 4-1 manifold
I was wondering if anyone would be able to tell me what size jet I should be using for teh 1.8 BMW engine (M10). I think it should be about 1.7mm but
not 100%
Also, if I use the bike fuel pump will that supply the correct psi of fuel for the carbs?

Sorry, cant help with jets for BMW engine.
Bike pump should work just fine. I used ZZR1100 carbs on my pinto and the 1000cc bike pump works a treat.
You will need a manifold. If you get one off Boggs they will probs advise initial jetting etc. There may also be some air holes to block off. Your
only issue with getting a manifold made is that if the company you choose hasnt done a BMW M10 before they may need your car.
You may find a BMW tuning forum as well with some good advice.
Whatever initial settings you do go for, id strongly advise a RR tune by someone who knows bike carb conversions. I had my engine running and with a
improvement in performance but it was weak. After tuning it was far better. I wouldnt want you to wreck your engine.

I'm not sure that this is the best place to ask about setting up this engine as it is not a common choice in a Locost - they are a bit heavy

I asked on ppcmag.co.uk/forum and they pointed me in this direction and after using the search function a few times it looked as though a few folk had
used bike carbs on thier builds
I was going to have ago at making my own intake and exhaust manifold as we have a failry well equipped metalwork factory at work with lads to help.
I'll get the pump off the bike though to be on the safe side
and will give bogg bros a ring too

Hi i have zx9r carbs fitted to a 2.1 ford pinto and the jets are 1.7mm so 1.7 may be a bit big for a 1.8l engine + as Darren says some air holes
may need blocking off
Have a look in my photo archives under zx9r carbs it may help you when making a manifold
+ put a location were you live you may be local to some one who has done this mod
