1.8T 20 v engine RWD conversion
mgmiller - 2/1/08 at 02:36 PM

Hi,

I'm looking at building a locost kitcar and fancy fitting a VW 1.8T 20v engine.

Does anyone know of a gearbox what will fit to the engine to make it RWD? or if an adaptor is available for a type 9 box.

Cheers

Mark

Hi,

and welcome to the forum.

You can buy a bellhousing for a type 9 gearbox. Have a look at:

There was one on the bay the other day to mate the 1.8t to a Type 9.......I cant find it now, might have ended.

Proves they exist though........unless it was another flu-hallucination of mine?!

Wouldnt a Type 9 start to fall to bits with the amount of torque a 1.8T 20v can output?

have a look here for an mt75 based RWD conversion. A bit pricey though....

I believe Alphax has even got a cast alluminium bellhousing to mount the VAG turbo to a Type 9 box.

This one is in use by someone at the dutch kitcarclub, and I think he has bought the unit at alphax but not sure, if not it can also be sourced from a Donkervoort

Thanks for the inforamtion gents.

Looks possible to have a RWD 1.8T with a MT75 box or uprated t9.

Any one heard of a 1.8T conversion with a supra box?

Cheers

sounds stupid, Why throw away a perfectly good and relaiable toyota engine and replace with a VAG.....

can be done for sure, but I would keep the straight 6 on the supra box if it'spower you're after. elso put a 3sgte 2.0L turbo on the supra box and still be better off than with the VAG (at least cheaper in tuning the thing)
